Coffee anyone?

Up here with the lapland kids of Sweden, one thing you are going to notice immediately is the cold...and I'm not talking about the chilly breeze outside in Australia where you consider putting a jumper on. I'm talking about -20 degrees Celsius (apparently sometimes even -30), and trust me, you don't go outside without covering almost ever possible part of your body with multiple layers which make you resemble a marshmallow. (Shout out to Julia for lending me some gloves today! Tack <3 )

Today, after school, my new group of friends took me out for a very Swedish activity known as 'fika'. Living in such cold temperatures, most people prefer to stay inside where they can all enjoy kaffe och kaken (coffee and cake) together. This is pretty different from Australia where my friends frequently spent time outside to head off for shopping in the city or relax around South bank. Both are great, and VERY suitable for the weather conditions of both countries.

We had about 14 of us all huddled together around a long table, sharing stories while I attempted some phrases in Swedish. I can't say I'm a pro quite yet, but hopefully I'll pick it up quickly with this group helping me! I would like to note that with the help of Ida I was able to order in Swedish! The cakes here in Pitea taste amazing, and I hate to admit it....but Swedish coffee trumps the Aussies. I can see why they drink it here so much now.
